Austin doesn’t have a dominant gay neighborhood because the gay scene is integrated throughout the city. The best bet when searching for the gay scene is in and around the artsy downtown area. This downtown warehouse district has plenty of gay bars and several gay clubs around town. With its many universities scattered throughout the city, there is a young hip crowd out and about.

Although Austin tends to be a liberal and progressive city, it still is in the heart of Texas and there are still some locals that might not be as happy to see public displays of affection.
