Gaytravel.com likes to learn as much as we can about our site users as well as the events we offer on the site so we went straight to the source for some Q & A with AGSW President Todd Heimel and this is what he had to say…
Q: What are you most looking
forward to this year at Aspen Gay Ski Week?
A: The people from all over the United
States and the world who return each year to
Aspen Gay Ski Week—and bring more friends with them.
Q: What events will highlight the “Through the Years” theme, celebrating the
35th anniversary of AGSW?
A: We are celebrating the decades of Aspen Gay Ski Week at signature events for
the week, such as the following:
· Wednesday, January 18: Aspen
is home to world-class shopping, and for the annual Boutique Night Stroll,
participating boutiques will be open late. Wednesday Late Night will be hosted
by Aspen’s
premier private night club, The Caribou Club.
· Thursday, January 19: At Belly Up, the Demented Divas star in “UNCUT: Letting
It All Hang Out,” a comedy show starring Nuclia Waste, Portia Potty, Iona
Trailer and Gabrellia Butz’In. After the show, a DJ takes the stage, and
attendees can dance the night away.
· Friday, January 20: The popular downhill costume competition will be bigger
and better for our 35th Anniversary, so get your costumes ready for the 70s,
80s, 90s and today.
· Saturday, January 21: Aspen Recreation Center will once again hosts the
infamous pool party, featuring DJs, dancing, hot tubs, water slides, a lazy
river and open bars.
Q: What makes AGSW the premier LGBT ski event?
A: Aspen Gay Ski Week is the premier LGBT ski event, because it is the oldest
annual, week-long gay ski event in the nation. A model for other gay ski weeks,
we offer a unique vacation experience in the scenic and historic mountain town
of Aspen, Colorado—and
better yet, four mountains of varied skiing and snowboarding terrain.
Q: What are some of the biggest Aspen Ski events participants can look forward
to?
A: After hitting the slopes, join us each evening for our legendary après ski
parties at the Limelight Lodge. We have discounted drinks, two 20 person hot
tubs, pool, DJ and snacks every day from 3-7pm.
Q: When should people start planning their trip if they’re interested in going
to AGSW?
A: January is peak ski season in Aspen,
so lodging fills quickly. This year's host hotel is once again the Limelight
Lodge which is just steps from the heart of town and the base of Aspen mountain. Other hotels, condominiums and houses can
be reserved as well. Reserve your room soon, because the cheapest deals go to
early birds. Visit “Plan Your Trip” on our site at http://gayskiweek.com/planning/
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: What makes our gay ski week unique is that it is a fundraiser for the
Roaring Fork Gay and Lesbian Community Fund (RFGLCF) which was founded by
members of the Aspen gay community in 1996, with a mission of promoting tolerance,
understanding and diversity through education, community action and service in
Colorado's beautiful Roaring Fork Valley. RFGLCF has partnered with the TEACH
program in the Roaring Fork School District to help fund training for children
and adults who are learning the principles of diffusing situations of racism,
genderism, sexism, ageism, bullying and homophobia. Other beneficiaries include
the The Trevor Project, GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network),
the Point Foundation, The Gender Identity Center of Colorado, and the Western
Colorado AIDS Project. Visit www.rfglcf.com to learn more.
