Davey Wavey’s Insane 5-Minute Hotel Room Workout
When you take a vacation, your body does not. While the occasional break from exercise can be a good thing, vacations need not be an excuse to skip out on an energizing, heart-pumping workout.
While many hotels have fitness centers stocked with cardio machines, equipment and weights, you can actually get a great workout without even leaving your room. There are any number of effective exercises—like pushups and tricep dips—that use your body weight as resistance rather than expensive or cumbersome equipment.
Or, if you travel a lot, you may want to invest in some resistance bands. With resistance bands, you use the elasticity as resistance—and they’re surprisingly challenging. They’re also lightweight and totally portable; it’s like having a strength training gym in your suitcase.
I’m a big fan of The Human Trainer. Similar to the resistance bands in terms of portability, you can tuck the system away in your suitcase and bring it anywhere. But rather than using elasticity, The Human Trainer hooks onto the door of your hotel room. Long, durable straps with handles create endless possibilities for a powerful bodyweight workout routine. It’s especially useful in working your back muscles—which are often neglected in typical bodyweight exercises.
While on a recent trip to Palm Springs, California, I put together a quick, 5-minute hotel room workout to help get your blood flowing and give you a few ideas. You can either follow along as I move through the exercises, or just use the video as inspiration in creating your own hotel room workout routine.
Traveling doesn’t need to be a death sentence for your workout routine. With a little creativity and dedication, you can get a great workout wherever you go. And if you have a favorite hotel room exercise (get your mind out of the gutter—no, not that type of exercise!), then share it in the comments below. And if you give my 5-minute workout a try, let me know what you think.
