Speedos and Hotties and Vegas “O” My!

I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical about my recent trip to Las Vegas. Since I don’t drink, gamble or stay up later than 9PM, I didn’t think Sin City would have much for me. Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had a great time seeing the sights, eating the food and checking out the local talent (aka, the men on Grindr).

Though much of what I did in Vegas will stay in Vegas (thank God), the true highlight of my trip was attending a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s “O” at the Bellagio.

When I first arrived, I asked a few locals about their recommendations for a show. And indeed, Vegas has no shortage of shows. Celine Dion, David Copperfield, Elton John and Rod Stewart were just a few of the headliners. But despite all the stardom, almost everyone recommended that I see “O.” And so I did.

The performance is inspired by the concept of infinity that is symbolized by the letter “O.” And since the word “O” sounds like the French word (“eau”) for water, that’s the theme for the show. As such, the performance centers around a 1.5 million galloon swimming pool and a small army of synchronized swimmers, divers and acrobats.

When you cough up $150 for a not-so-great seat, you have high expectations. Even so, I spent the entire 90 minutes at the edge of my seat, completely mesmerized.

I don’t want to spill the details or secrets of the performance itself—but it was nothing short of magical. In it, the impossible is made possible. And as an audience member, you can’t help but be inspired to push through your own challenges—and to rethink your own limits.

Then there’s the icing on the cake. Because the Cirque du Soleil performers are world-class athletes, you also have the added bonus of seeing their chiseled bodies in various stages of undress. It’s muscle on muscle—and it is, in and of itself, worth the price of admission. $150 well spent.

Even if gambling, buffets and drunken debauchery aren’t your thing, I’d encourage you to consider Vegas for the cornucopia of entertainment—not the least of which includes the remarkable Cirque du Soleil shows—that it’s able to offer visitors. There’s certainly something for everyone—especially if you can appreciate a wet, muscled athlete in a speedo.
