Southern California restaurateurs Tim and Liza Goodell are on a roll - following
the success of their LA spot Dakota, they chose the Gaslamp District for the second
iteration of their Red Pearl Kitchen.
Red Pearl is a dark and intimate space, with the ‘giant’ being the design modus
operandi. An oversized Oriental-style chair marks the door, and “RED PEARL” writ
large in backlit letters jumps out from the wall behind the hostess. Huge circular red
lamps hang from the ceiling, providing romantic soft light against the exposed brick
walls. It’s an excellent combination between romantic and sexy.
The staff seems to be mostly 20-something uber-attractive girls, and the food is
straightforward and delicious.
