Looking for an escape from the winter blues? If beautiful sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters is your thing, we recommend a trip to one of our favorite tropical destinations: The Caribbean!

The Caribbean is a region southeast of the Gulf of Mexico consisting of the Caribbean Sea and an enchanted archipelago comprised of 28 island nations and more than 7,000 individual islands. Most of the major Caribbean cities have airports, so the easiest way to get into town is by plane. There are also smaller airlines and charter boats that offer connections between islands once you are in the area.

LGBT travelers should note that some islands are more gay-friendly than others.  The French, Dutch and US Islands are more welcoming of LGBT travelers.

Known as one of the most gay-friendly Caribbean Islands, St. Croix features white sand beaches that stretch nearly 100 miles. There, you’ll find great shopping, resorts and restaurants. St. Thomas is another popular island for LGBT visitors--one of the most urban of the US Virgin Islands. It offers a relaxing environment by day and a lively scene by night. One of our favorite hangouts is Iggies Beach Bar & Grill, located a few feet from the water’s edge at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. GayTravel.com recently explored the Caribbean island of Nevis with our Luxury GayTravel Guru, Carlos Melia and we had an amazing time! Among our most memorable moments: fly-boarding in the sea, taking a bike tour around the island and playing 18 rounds of Eco Bio Golf! We chose to stay at the Four Seasons, where we were pampered and treated like royalty.

Before you go, we recommend planning your trip with GayTravel.com. Visit our Caribbean page to see more of our favorite hot spots!
