When my boyfriend and I planned our trip to Paris, we were looking forward to a romantic Thanksgiving getaway in the city of love. We didn't anticipate the horrific tragedy that was to unfold a week before our trip, and found ourselves momentarily rethinking our plans. In the end, it was my mom who was the voice of reason - and who reminded us that you can't live your life in fear of the "what ifs".

Paris was somber and quiet. The streets were less busy and fewer tourists were lined up at landmarks or cafes. But Paris will always be Paris, and the city's beauty was untarnished.

While sampling chocolates, one shopkeeper asked us if we felt safe. We told her that we did. She replied, "Paris is the city of love. And there's force in the world greater than that." Indeed, there's nothing that love can't overcome - and, for us, there's no place in the world we'd rather be to celebrate our Thanksgiving holiday.
