Sedona White Party

Partygoers are encouraged to dress in their classiest white clothes for the Sedona Gay Pride White Party.

The July 21 event is a fundraiser for Pride on the Rocks, Sedona's Pride festival.

Drag queens Janee Starr and Diva from Tucson will host and perform during the White Party. DJ Mixtress Hava will spin music.

Since Sedona doesn't have gay bars, the White Party is an opportunity for LGBT people in and around Sedona and the Verde Valley to get together, according to Marc Epplenhill, director of public relations for Sedona Gay Pride.

"It's a chance to get out in the middle of the summer and do something," Epplenhill said. "People come out to the event that wouldn't normally come out."

Epplenhill said the White Party is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Sedona Pride, an organization that puts on the festival and provides outreach and education to LGBT people in Sedona and the Verde Valley.

The party raised around $2,000 a year for the past three years, he said.

Epplenhill said every year the White Party becomes a bigger event. He said it grew from 125 people in 2010 to around 180 in 2011, with people from Sedona, Flagstaff, Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson attending the party.

There will be a prize for the party's best-dressed attendee. Gift baskets will be raffled off.
