GT: What makes your city such a great LGBT destination?

SW: Warmth and friendliness of the Hawaiian culture that we call the Aloha Spirit. The local community is incredibly embracing of everyone who visit or choose live in Hawaii. Hawaii has always been an inclusive destination. The ALOHA spirit that is second nature to the people of the Islands creates a bond with all guests regardless of race or sexual orientation.  We have many activities for Gay Travelers and once you have been on the islands, you realize that it is a place that you will want to come time and time again.

GT: What are some hotspots gay and lesbian travelers should check out when they are in the city?

SW: Waikiki Spots I would suggest include Sheraton Waikiki’s RumFire, dinner at Azure Restaurant at The Royal Hawaiian resort, karaoke at Wang Chungs, a fun night out at Bacchus, try a mai tai at Hulas. For the Downtown Honolulu scene I would suggest Ladies Night at Bar 35 and Drag Queen Karaoke at Ka Lei’s. I recommend Hula’s Bar and Lei Stand, it’s been an institution for over 35 years and it is offers a great escape from the Gay Beach that is only steps away from the bar.

GH: What are the top five reasons for gay travelers to visit?

SW: Reason One:  HOT HOT HOT Surfer Boys and Surfer Girls

Reason Two: warmth and friendliness of the Hawaiian Culture

Reason Three: 80-degree weather year round

Reason Four: tantalizing Pacific Rim Cuisine fusing flavors of East and West making Hawaii a true “foodie” destination.

Reason Five: the most gorgeous beaches around the world & some of the most spectacular natural hikes (to help work off the delicious food, of course).

GT: Why should gay travelers book at your property instead of other properties in the area?

SW: Starwood Waikiki is really gay-friendly, great programs such daily Wine Tastings at “the Sheraton Social Hour,” Color-Your-Plate Program which offers the healthy alternative to dining for travelers who are looking for some amazing and delicious nutritious options, Skinny Menu Cocktails at Sheraton Waikiki’s Rumfire, Sheraton Waikiki’s Core Fitness Gym, the  best adults-only Infiniti Edge Pool at Sheraton Waikiki, Twin Jacuzzi’s open till 9:30 p.m. at Sheraton Waikiki, exclusive Cabana pool service at the Infinity Edge Pool, RumFire is the only oceanfront gay-friendly bar that has an amazing vibe mixing the tropical warm touches of paradise with the class and sophistication of metropolitan trendy lounge, Sheraton Leahi Club Lounge is a breathtaking escape to really take in the beautiful Waikiki coastline from the top of the Sheraton Waikiki (also the location of over 57 same-sex marriages the night the bill was passed in Hawaii last year). I am a big believer that the Gay Travelers want to book where they know they will be welcome and feel comfortable and with the Sheraton Waikiki being in the best location of Waikiki Beach it offers the best of everything for the LGBT community. Waikiki is renowned for being a place of relaxation and rejuvenation and yet it has the energy that is fantastic, being the leader of the Sheraton Waikiki I tried to truly blend the best of both a fun relaxing experience with the vibe and energy that is Waikiki.  Check out our Adult only Infinity edge pool, if you stay somewhere else you’re going to miss out on something truly spectacular.

GT: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

SW: Rumfire is an awarding winning bar with hand-crafted cocktails—some served in the quintessential Hawaiian PINEAPPLE! Sheraton Waikiki is a premier location for same-sex marriages to take place. We offer several options for couples who are either looking for a large extravagant venue or something more intimate.
