Columbus

Columbus is home to the huge and active Ohio State University, which gives it a vibrant gay scene with tons of art and culture. The quirky Midwest atmosphere of this college town put it on the short list for being one of America’s great under-rated gay cities. It has even been called one of the 10 best off-the-beaten path U.S. cities for gays and lesbians to call home.

The easiest way to get into Columbus from afar is to fly into the Port Columbus International Airport, or by one of the various highways that lead into the city. Most major highlights are within a twenty minute walk of one another, so getting around by foot is extremely easy here. For more peripheral areas, having a car is definitely helpful and parking is inexpensive and abundant.

Columbus is known for its humid Midwest climate, which makes for hot muggy summers and cold dry winters. Snowfall generally isn't heavy compared to other wintery towns which makes this a great destination to travel to all year round. With that said, the occasional thunderstorm or blizzard could still hit so be sure to stay on your toes and plan ahead while traveling!

Most tourist areas are relatively crime-free, although theft of laptops, phones, and cars is always a big issue in this city. It is best to keep valuables out of sight while leaving parked cars, and be sure to keep wallets and electronics well stowed on your person while in busy areas. Otherwise, sticking to well-frequented areas should keep you safe!
