Big Island
0Larger than all the other islands combined, Hawaii - known to locals as the Big Island - is home to picturesque beaches, gorgeous waterfalls, hidden valleys and Kilauea - the world’s most active volcano. It is believed by locals that the rich soil left behind after an eruption is a gift from Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, to produce food and flowers, like the mesmerizing Hawaiian orchid. Two main cities straddle the coasts - Hilo on the east coast and Kailua-Kona on the west coast. With all four habitats co-existing in this tiny space, the outdoorsy nature in all of us inevitably comes out. Go on, embrace it!
