Gay Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel, and thanks to Israel’s longstanding democratic governance, is home to the most vibrant LGBT community in the Middle East. The city is growing rapidly, and developing a New York-style, 24/7 intensity that is attracting much of the youth countrywide.

Tel Aviv is split into no less than 50 neighborhoods, some with quite a distinctive culture and others more or less a simple geographic indicator. Staying on Ha’Yarkon Street will keep you close to the beach action, and only a 20-minute walk from the majority of the gay venues. The city itself is very walkable, and its flat terrain and mild weather ideally suited for bicycle discovery. Taxis can be hailed on the street, and an extensive bus network extends out into the suburbs should you find yourself cuddled up next to a local!

The cool, rainy winters run from November to March, with travel really ramping up in the summer months. The heat can sometimes turn humid in late summer, but in general the summertime climate is luscious and Mediterranean – and attracts thousands of Israeli families, as well as droves of sun-worshipping international tourists.

Jerusalem, Massada and the Dead Sea are all within 1-2 hours drive from the centrally located Tel Aviv, so if you like to party at night, hole up in Tel Aviv and branch out from there. Tel Aviv makes for quite the home away from home!

Tel Aviv Gay Scene

With over 14 km of magnificent beaches right on the Mediterranean Sea, Tel Aviv is a notable gay travel destination because it combines the wonder of endless beaches with the excitement of urban life. Tel Aviv is a world unto its own and is by far the most gay-friendly city in all of the Middle East.

The main gay area is centered along Rothshild Avenue. Shenkin Street is particularly busy during the weekends and nearby Dizengoff Center is the place for some cruisey shopping. No one will look twice at a couple of the same sex holding hands, and this acceptance means that there are gay venues sprinkled throughout the city. The majority of the action happens on Thursdays and Fridays, with some venues hosting weekly or monthly parties rather than being open every day. The venues are ever changing, so check locally when you arrive.

The gay beach is definitely Hilton Beach, where a regular contingent of sexy bodies mingles near the Hilton Hotel. For those intrepid souls working on that elusive full-body tan, take a short drive or taxi out to Ga’ash beach where nudity is encouraged.

Pride is huge in early June, with the parade ending in a giant celebration on the beach. Pride also means the TLV Fest, a Gay and Lesbian Film Festival held during Pride since 2006.
