Forget the images you’ve seen on CNN. Gay New Orleans is a phoenix that has started to rise from the ashes of Hurricane Katrina, an exciting Southern city teeming with culture, history and plenty of places to let loose and get crazy. (There are liberal open container laws and plenty of 24/7 bars) Gay travelers - some perhaps drawn here by a 2007 poll that ranked the city second for gay friendliness in all the U.S.—will spend much of their days and, of course, nights in the French Quarter but that’s hardly all the Crescent City has to offer. The French Quarter is definitely the epicenter of the gay scene in New Orleans, the most happening spot being the corner of Bourbon and St. Ann streets.

Turn the corner - bar. Turn to the other corner - bar. Bourbon Street is like the strip in Vegas, the party never stops. You won’t have trouble finding a gay bar here.
Once your stomach calls for a break - and, with all these great restaurants around, it surely will - make sure to eat a global-NOLA-inspired fusion dish at Stella!, sample gumbo and crawfish pie at the gay-popular BYOB restaurant Eat and don’t forget to grab a café au lait and one of New Orlean’s signature beignets, powdered-sugar French bread doughnuts, at Café du Monde on Decatur Street.
