Testimonials
Springtime has me dreaming of outdoor weddings filled with tulips and sunshine. And allergies. But more on that later. If you're thinking about tying the gay knot in Boston, I want to give you a taste-y insider tip on a spot not to be missed;the rooftop of XV Beacon hotel. Over the years, I've stayed for business at this stylish hotel housed in a turn-of-the-century Beaux Arts building, so it wasn't really on my radar screen as a possible locale for my lavender nuptials. But I recently caught up with XV Beacon's General Manager Amy Finsilver, and she reminded me that although the hotel's rooftop is mainly an amenity only for guests, brides and grooms can rent it out for a special occasion with rates starting at $500 depending upon season and timing.
Besides the sparkling Boston views, there are a few more reasons XV Beacon is one of my favorite picks. First, it's pet-friendly,so if you're planning on having Fido, or in my case, Frida, walk you down the aisle, you're in luck. There are no fees associated with the pet's stay, just an optional request that you make a $25 donation to the local ASPCA. Frida approves of that approach.
Second, if you're an allergy sufferer like me, and worried about the affect an outdoor Spring or Summer wedding might have on your wedding night (runny nose and itchy eyes are just not sexy) then fear not. XV Beacon is the first Boston hotel to use an FDA-cleared air-purifying device in their Hypo-Allergenic Guest Rooms. According to studies, the purifier kills more than 99% of indoor airborne bacteria
Over the past year or so, at least five gay and lesbian couples have chosen XV Beacon as the site for their wedding - check out this blog (by No Eye Has Seen) for pictures of one such celebration. From the cozy gas fireplaces in each room to the complimentary in-town Lexus sedan service (hybrids, of course), the special touches at XV Beacon that end up making you feel like a baron(ess) from the gilded age. And that's nothing to sneeze at.
