In a collaboration of some of the flashiest names in contemporary art and design. Thompson’s Lower East Side property is for the young and restless. Designed by Ed Rawlings Architects, with interiors with Jim Walrod, Thompson LES radiates the creative undercurrent of its neighborhood. Among the hotel’s edge-defining backdrops are its façade, embodying the ultimate in clean, industrial New York. 141 rooms featuring custom-made light-boxes by Lee Friedlander and graphic paintings by Ryan McGinness, a rooftop pool displaying an image of Andy Warhol, creative by Gerard Malanga, and its restaurant featuring large scale paintings by legendary artist Peter Halley. Thompson LES’s 18 stories also house a labyrinth of social hotspots such as an outdoor pool and bar, Above Allen, a private outdoor-indoor terrace bar open year round, and is proud to the recent opening of Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya.
Overview
Guestrooms feature lightbox headboards by Lee Friedlander, low beds and couches, simple black and metal tables, exposed columns and ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of New York City.
Thompson LES is host to a multiplex of hotspots, including an outdoor pool and lounge with a filmstrip of Andy Warhol by Gerard Malanga photolithographed onto the pool floor, Above Allen—guests and members only lounge featuring stunning skyline views and Steven Sprouse fabric—along with SHANG, a global Chinese restaurant with celebrity chef Susur Lee at its helm.
