The Happiest Place On Earth can also be called the Gayest Place on Earth. Fairies, Queens, Princesses, and a whole lot of rainbows. If you’re in the OC, get onto the 5 freeway and make it over to Magic Way for a date with Mickey and Minnie.
Disney’s California Adventure is one of it’s newest parks and is built right across from the original Disneyland. You have to pay a separate entrance fee though, so make sure you buy a pass specifying entrance to this park.
California Adventure is in the same vein as Disneyland except each “world” in this park is a different area of California instead of a Magical Land. There are still shops galore and rides galore, but there are more speedy and scary attractions. Featuring the only upside down rollercoaster in either SoCal park and the incredible smell-o-vision “Soarin’ Over California,” it’s worth a trip of its own. Pay attention to the Easy Pass system so that you have someone standing in line for you virtually. A great time saver!
You could easily spend an entire day roaming this park and only see less than 10% of it. It’s important to bring sun screen, water, and quite a bit of cash as this is not the most wallet-friendly site in SoCal. The entrance alone will cost you at least $50!
If you’re visiting from out of town, I recommend getting a park-hopper pass so that you can go back and forth between parks (Disneyland and California Adventure are literally next door to each other) and take your time over a long weekend. Stay in a hotel nearby so that you don’t have to pay for parking which is at least an additional $10 per car.
They call this place the happiest place on earth because it’s really about making you smile. Bring your friends. Bring a date. Feel comfortable being yourself- most of the staff is either gay or gay-friendly and the park even sponsors a once a summer “GAY DAY” where they pay special love and attention to their LGBT patrons.
