If you’re looking for fine creole cuisine, don’t pass up the unassuming Roux on Orleans, right off the grand lobby of Bourbon on Orleans hotel. The restaurant has a casual luxury befitting a cuisine chock full of local Louisiana ingredients. The French doors open up on warm evenings, infusing a bit of French Quarter charm into every bite.
The wine list has a surprisingly varied selection that will appease those with extensive wine knowledge, as well as those less inclined. The menu is dedicated to all things creole, using indigenous ingredients in every dish. There is the fresh turtle soup with sherry, the sharp gulf shrimp and goat cheese crepes, the zesty and flavorful pasta jambalaya, or the crunchy pecan-encrusted drumfish with a tangy crabmeat relish.
This is a reasonably priced restaurant with great ambiance and an extremely knowledgeable, helpful and unobtrusive service. Ask for Michelle!
