Three Muses is the latest addition to the city’s live music scene that is centered along five blocks of Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny. This neighborhood is home to the hipsters, musicians and artists that form most of the creative center of New Orleans, where you might share the street with vagabonds and a ragtime band busking. Or, for Halloween, an enterprising woman setting up racks of second-hand clothing for last-minute costumes takes up an entire street corner.
The Three Muses was created by a trio of professionals in culinary, hospitality and music, bringing together the essential ingredients – the three muses – for a performance space with superior food and quality beverage. The vibe is laid-back local, with pictures of local music legends like washboard player Chaz Leary on the walls and regional bands performing nightly.
The food is a highlight, following the small plates revolution, with an unusual combination of ingredients delivering an unexpected wow factor. The sweet chili lime sauce was a perfect complement to the lobster egg rolls, and the lamb sliders had a textured warmth that kept me smiling.
Palate pleasing cocktails flawlessly frame the tapas-style dishes, such as The Muse, which consists of cucumbers and strawberries with St. Germain and Plymouth gin. The Euterpe Sangria was a happy twist on an old favorite, using Absolut Acai to enhance the fruit flavor.
Music, booze and food – the three muses, indeed!
