French Market

0

23 Nov 10 - Cultural Attraction in New Orleans

The French Market is the ultimate in New Orleans shopping. With dozens of vendors concentrated in one place, you can be confident in the selection of goods for purchase. Whether you are picking up kitschy souvenirs or browsing for something more substantial, you can do it all right here.

The French Market unofficially begins at world-famous Café du Monde, which earns its reputation as a tourist trap. The line is usually long, but if you can get there at an off-peak hour, snag a table and indulge in a warm beignet covered in powdered sugar. As the mess of white suggest, be prepared for that sugar to be transferred to your person. Café du Monde is worth a visit, just not that much of a wait.

Further down is the French Market arch, marking the beginning of the newly renovated permanent space. On the way in, be spontaneous and grab some alligator on a stick, pair it with a frosty cocktail, and make your way further down to the flea market area. Only in New Orleans will you have the opportunity to do your rounds while drinking your next round so live it up while you’re here!
