Glasgay FestivalHOT GAY EVENT OF
THE MONTH

Glasgay Festival
Sep 11 - Nov 11, 2007

Glasgay is one of the brightest gay celebrations of the UK autumn season. The festival, now in its 14th successful year, remains one of the most important events in the Scottish arts calendar and offers entertainment for all ages, tastes and persuasions.

Highlights in the 2007 Glasgay! include theatre productions of Louise Welsh’s "Tamburlaine Must Die" and Luke Sutherland’s "Venus as A Boy", as well as international star Scott Capurro. Whilst keeping a foot in the queer underground, Glasgay! is one of the most popular LGBT events within the UK!

Who are you going to kiss at midnight?Who are you going to kiss at midnight?

New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays – and a great way to ring in the New Year is in a new city. I have spent many a new year’s eve enjoying the electricity and contagious excitement of a surging crowd in cities ranging from the East Coast to the South and parts out West.

But maybe the crowd isn’t your idea of a party? Who says you can’t go and enjoy the sights from a sumptuous hotel room – all of these cities we’ve visited certainly have that option – so you can still enjoy the revelry and snuggle up with that special someone and a bottle of bubbly.

Those of you who the spectacle of the throng are sure to love these destinations – it’s all about taking a peek at the biggest and best celebrations across the country – and even one down under. So let’s hop a train, catch a plane, or grab a cab and start 2008 with all the glitter and gusto it deserves.

First Stop: Sydney

SydneyWho doesn’t want to be first? Sydney welcomes the new year like no other city – and does it before anyone else. You’ll want to rest up because this is a full-day event.

The streets in the Central Business District (CBD) close early so wear comfortable shoes and don’t bring your cocktail – it’s illegal. Not to worry, there are plenty of places to buy that Foster’s oilcan. For the absolute best information on this event, visit Sydney’s New Year’s Eve

Where to stay: Rydges World Square. Conveniently located in the CBD, all of the city’s main attractions are close by. This 5 star hotel offers true elegance for your New Year’s stay in Sydney.

Always pack your prescription medication in your carry-on luggage and make sure to take copies of the prescriptions with you in case they need to be replaced.

The Original Gay Destination: Key West

Key WestEveryone thinks of Key West as the quintessential gay vacation spot, and for New Year’s it doesn’t disappoint. First stop is the Red High Heel Drop at the Bourbon St. Pub/New Orleans House. But you don’t want to miss the fireworks at the end of the White Street Pier at midnight over Key West Harbour.

Where to stay: The Mermaid and The Alligator is a lovely establishment that offers casual elegance and is located in the heart of Old Town Key West on Truman Ave.

The Big Apple: NYC

Times Square NYWho doesn’t want to spend New Year’s in the heart of it all? New York rings it in like no other city. Go for the sheer electricity and exuberance in the air – you’ll never forget it.

Where to stay: The Renaissance New York on Times Square. Need I say more? This AAA, Four-Star hotel offers superlative service and the view – well you can’t get closer to the action.

Editor's Travel TipsEDITOR'S TRAVEL TIPS
Invest in an inflatable neck pillow for long flights – seriously. You may look like a dork but you’ll sleep well and won’t get a sore neck. Best of all you won’t wake up with your head on a stranger’s shoulder…no matter how cute he might be, he’d rather you not drool on him.

Las Vegas: The Party Never Stops

Las VegasVegas has two of the best street parties: The Fremont Experience and the Strip. The Fremont Experience hosts "America’s Party", which is the downtown block party. Tickets typically run about $80 per person. In past years the event hosted a great selection of well-known and up and coming bands performing for the hip crowd, and the pinnacle of the evening are the electronic fireworks overhead.

On The Strip, expect large crowds as everyone (drinks in hand) gets their spot for the free fireworks display which runs from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere.MGM Grand - NYNY Hint: get your cocktails well before heading out – while you can drink on the street, finding your mojito might be a challenge.

Where to stay: MGM Grand and NYNY are both located right on the strip so you’ll be in the heart of the action. The MGM also has parties at Tabu and Studio 54 if the club scene is more your style.

Wherever you spend the evening, you’ll want to take a group of friends and make the most of it. There’s a big world out there, so make it your new resolution to see it!
