Yucatan Cenotes

0

2 Aug 11 - Sightseeing in Riviera Maya

These are located all over the Yucatan. A cenote is an opening into the underground rivers that criss-cross the Yucatan. They can be a cave or an opening that looks like a short river.
2 of my Favorites are Grand Cenote just about 5 kilometers west of Tulum. It is 2 caves with beautiful lighting and great stelactities and stelagmites. Also Casa Cenote. This is near the beach about 6 kilometers north of Tulum. This one is like a short river and you can also see the “ojo de agau” eye of water, which is where the cenote empties into the ocean. Cenotes are fresh water and nice and cold for a hot afternoon cool down. A great choice after walking through the jungle on a ruin tour. Take your snorkel gear.
Don’t miss these if you go to the Yucatan. You will not see these natural wonders anywhere else on earth.
