The compact downtown is home to many resorts, clubs, bars, funky cafes, and quirky boutiques owned by members of the gay community. Guerneville is not the place to prance about in your trendiest attire or drop the name of your A-list friend-of-a-friend. The attitude-free people here dress down and chill out, and you’ll see more than a few vintage VW buses. A significant portion of both the permanent and visiting population is aging hippies and left-leaning thinkers, all of whom accept (and expect) the gay lifestyle.
