Boulettes Larder is one of those peculiar gems that manages to delight foodies
from all corners of the world without losing face to unnecessary pretension. Whether or
not you care about the provenance of your quinoa, or if you are a voracious consumer of
quality mullet bottarga (fish roe), you will be pleased to discover all that is Boulettes.
Located in the Ferry Building adjacent to the looming Bay Bridge, this is quite a
catch. The menu changes every day, depending on what chef Laurie discovers and wants
to showcase. On one particular fog-enshrouded day, there was a steaming nine-grain
porridge with walnuts, flax seeds and currants, as well as housemade yogurt, spicy fried
rice scramble eggs and poached deliciousness with winter root vegetable puree.
The larder is also a foodie affair. Boulettes will help kit out your own kitchen
with a variety of hard-to-find items and ingredients. The larder menu is ever-changing, so
march your local friends right down there and demand that they make you a decadent
meal from only the highest-quality ingredients!
And last but not least, Boulettes is a lesbian-owned business. That just puts the
rose petals on the crème fraiche panna cotta with rose petal shortbread!
