While there isn't much of a gay scene on the California central coast in general, San Luis Obispo is much more liberal, probably due to the large population of college students. You won't find many gay events, the town itself is relatively gay-friendly. Downtown has a pretty lively nightlife, but the crowd is on the younger side. Outside of downtown, and house parties thrown by university students, the town is quiet at night.
