Flights to Hawaii for less than $200 is more rare than spotting a unicorn! Consider yourself #blessed though: Alaska Airlines is now offering $197 round-trip flights to a number of Hawaiian islands from the West Coast. Better yet: most of the flights are nonstop, too. These uber-discounted flights are to Kona, Maui, Honolulu, and Kauai from cities like San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and L.A. These fabulous fares are available between late April and the end of May, so it's a perfect fare sale for those of you who haven't yet planned a spring vacay. Don’t wait to bite the bullet though - fares are expected to rise again later in March.
To book, head to Google Flights to use the calendar to find the best dates. The cheapest fares—that magic $197!—will be highlighted in green. As always with Alaska Airlines, you'll get one carry-on bag, and your first and second checked bags are $25 each. Remember that if you change your mind within 24 hours of booking, you can cancel for a full refund. In this case, it's better to book now, and decide on your hotel (from our Gay Travel approved properties, of course) later.
If your city isn't included in the deal—in other words, if you live outside the Golden State—you can likely still find cheap flights to Hawaii, thanks to Alaska, Hawaiian Airlines, and United, who have all be offering low fares to the islands consistently over the last few months. Set up a fare tracker on Google Flights or an app like Hopper to keep track. All that's left to do is to buy some reef-safe sunscreen and a beach towel.
