The most fabulous event of the year came to slay and slay it did!  With over 50,000 attendees, this year’s DragCon was the largest yet.  There were too many amazing moments to recount, but here are some highlights:

The Runway

The Runway stage was home to many fun events this weekend.  A favorite was the Sissy That Walk: Runway Contest hosted by the fabulous and hilarious Eureka.  Fifteen different contestants, made up of all shapes and sizes, strutted their way down the runway showing off everything they had.  There was voguing, twerking, and death drops as far as the eye could see.  After a close competition, a young queen by the name of Lindsey More Fierce was crowned the winner.

The Swag

With over 350 vendor booths, there was plenty of swag to go around.  DragCon had it all from Jeffree Star’s latest makeup to prosthetics to fun merch with sassy sayings.  Like this giant YASS fan that is 100% necessary this coming summer.

The Meet & Greets

The meet and greets were a highlight for many.  And there were plenty of them!  With over 90 queens filtering in and out of DragCon, many had booths with photo and autograph ops.  A few fan favorites had some pretty daunting lines.  Luckily the long lines didn’t deter people, many having traveled a long way to meet their favorite queens.  Some attendees waited over three hours in line, but if you ask the true fans, it was well worth the wait.

The Panels

DragCon also had a variety of panels this year.  A favorite included “Oldies But Goodies: Well Seasoned Queens” made up of queens who have been around for a hot minute.  The panelists discussed how their looks have evolved over the years and how they’re encouraged by what they see in youth for the future of drag and beyond.  RuPaul’s keynote at the end of the weekend also reflected a similar sentiment, “Seeing all the young people and families and queens has filled my heart with gratitude and hope. The future is going to be fierce.”

All in all, the real highlight of this year’s DragCon was the kids.  This is the second year the con had free entry for kids under ten and a special kid zone.  It was incredible to see so many children dressed in their own unique way with more confidence than many adults will ever have.

Couldn’t make it to DragCon?  RuPaul’s DragCon NYC tickets just went on sale!  For more info on DragCon visit their website.
