With Gay Pride month coming to a close, it may seem as though the party is over. But hold your unicorns, my fellow GAYmericans; Independence Day is just around the bend! And if all of the hotdog eatin’, beer drinkin’, ice cream lickin’ jollification isn’t enough, you HAVE to check out one Gay Travel’s top 5 4th of July firework celebrations. With this many colors, it will feel as if Pride never left!
#1: The 41st Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, NYC
Home to one of the largest Gay Pride weekends in the world, New York City is preparing for yet another party: the 41st Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. And like most things in the Big Apple, this is BIG deal! Every year, a whopping 3,000,000 people gather to enjoy the twenty-five minute power-packed spectacle synchronized to a delicious score of music, but that’s not all. In addition to the meticulously designed firework sequence, the event is headlined by some of the top names in music, which this year includes the likes of Jennifer Lopez (I am already fan-girling over here!), Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, and Sheryl Crow, just to name a few. So if you’re looking for a bit of sizzling summer fun and a sure-to-be fantastic 4th of July, be sure to check this out!
***The event will be aired live on NBC the evening of July 4, 2017. Check your local listings for times.
#2: Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th, Nashville, TN
Watch out, NYC! It looks like summer 2017 is dishing up a hefty helping of 4th of July competition! Despite being famous for hosting the grandest firework show in the country, this year New York City may very well find itself in a run for its money by none other than Music City itself, Nashville, TN. Vowing to display the largest exhibition of pyrotechnics in the nation, the annual Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th event will present a slew of country music’s finest, headlined by CMT MUSIC AWARD winner Chris Young, featuring the GRAMMY-winning Nashville Symphony. So if honkytonks, cowboy hats, and mechanical bulls are your cup o’ Jack Daniels, Nashville may just be your rodeo this Independence Day.
#3: A Capitol Fourth, Washington, DC
It may seem like a no-brainer, but there’s perhaps no better way to celebrate America’s birthday than by paying a visit to the nation’s capitol. Whether you currently look upon Washington, DC with pride or disdain, it doesn’t matter this week; with all of the star-spangled offerings, including the magnificent fireworks show on the National Mall, everyone is certain to have a BLAST (pun totally intended)! In fact, for three decades A Capitol Fourth has presented the American public with a glorious display of firecrackers set against the beautiful patriotic backdrop of the country’s most iconic monuments. Beginning early in the day with the annual Independence Day parade along Constitution Ave., followed by the highly anticipated A Capital Fourth concert featuring host John Stamos and musical contributions by the Beach Boys, Blues Brothers, Trace Adkins, and the National Symphony Orchestra, and ending with a multicolored BANG, there is nothing quite like spending the 4th in Capitol City.
***A Capitol Fourth concert and fireworks special will be aired live on PBS the evening of July 4, 2017. Check your local listings for times.View More Arts and Culture ArticlesView More Event Spotlight ArticlesView More Top 10s, Rates and Reviews Articles
