STOCKHOLM - A gay and lesbian couple were married aboard a Scandinavian Airlines flight headed to New York. 

German couple Aleksander Mijatovic and Shantu Bhattacherjee and Ewa Tomaszewicz and Gosia Rowinska from Poland won the airline’s “Love is in the Air” marketing campaign. The campaign was sponsored by the International Gay Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA).The ceremonies are believed to be the first legal gay marriages performed on a commercial airline. 

After the vows were exchanged, the couples were treated to a traditional first dance, a multi-course dinner and a wedding cake.More than 300 couples entered the contest.
