Cork is a relatively larger city with over half a million inhabitants. In 2005, Cork was nominated as the European Capital of Culture! The city was gracefully built on top of the River Lee, and is divided into sections by the river. At the eastern end of the river lies Cork Harbour, which is one of the biggest natural harbours in the world!
Cork has a lively arts scene, especially since the Cork School of Music offers a ton of music and the University Cork College showcases some of the nation's best theatre performances. There are multiple venues, all with a broad range of cultural influences. Be sure to check out the Lewis Glucksman Gallery as well! This award winning art gallery is located just inside University Cork College. The city is also renowned for its traditions in food. The English Market sells all kinds of local fare, and there are endless restaurants to choose from!
