Gay Hua Hin

Hua Hin is a wildly popular seaside resort town that is a favorite with locals and tourists alike! Located two and half hours from Bangkok, many Bangkok residents take weekend jaunts over to Hua Hin to soak up some sun and get into full beach mode. Because of the emphasis on local tourism, there is limited commercial development in the area which maintains a charming aesthetic.

Beaches are the main attraction here but the nearby hill of Khao Takiab is home to gorgeous Buddhist temples and amazing views of the scenery below. Other natural beauty of Thailand can be found at the Sam Roi Yot National Park which is the site of amazing bird migrations in addition to local vegetation. For those who want a more relaxing visit to Hua Hin, be sure not to miss out on the amazing spa offerings in and around the area.

The easiest way to get to Hua Hin is by train or bus. For travelers who want more of an adventure, there is also a ferry that connects Pattaya and Hua Hin. Nearby Phuket is easy to get to and is like Hua Hin's big sibling, always there for a day trip when you want to hit the town or take in the more touristy destinations nearby!

MUST DO: Attractions & Activities

Head to the Beach - Hua Hin has sweeping beaches. In fact, their beaches stretch out for 4 kilometers giving plenty of options for lounging, surfing, banana boat rides, and more -- a true tropical destination.

Hua Hin Plern Wan - For the "foodies," Plern Wan is a shipping and eating destination with a retro look that's great for eating and photo ops. You can browse the many food vendors and eat all the traditional food you can eat! This place even has a ferris wheel!

Hua Hin Night Market - If you're looking for a more authentic shopping experience, try the Night Market. This is the place where the locals come to get their goods and it is a very traditional Thai marketplace. It is also gay-friendly. Here you will find valuable souvenirs that don't cost a fortune, Thai crafts, and quick, easy snacks. There is no rhyme or reason to the vendor's shops, but you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Thai shppping culture. Also, for the adventurous eater, don't be surprised if you find some deep-fried insects for sale as it is a traditional snack in Thailand.

Maruekhathaiyawan Palace is a must-see summer seaside palace originally built in 1923 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI).  It is located between Cha-Am and Hua Hin (a strategic location because of the railway connection to Bangkok at that time).
The palace is entirely built from beautiful teak wood and has a connection to the forest and sea which makes it an especially rejuvenating place to visit.

MUST EAT: Hua Hin Gay-Friendly Dining

Hua Hin is surrounded by beaches, which means that the seafood is fresh and amazing. Try some of these popular dishes that the locals can't get enough of and you won't be able to either. These dishes are popular and traditional, so you are in for a treat!

Som tam pu ma (spicy blue crab papaya salad) - Papaya salas is a popular street food in Thailand. Its refreshing, affordable, and easily available throughout the city. Why not try a twist on a favorite with some added spicy crab?

Tom yam Goong - This popular soup is made with shrimp, lemongrass, galangal, lime, and can be served with rice. Its fragrant, tasty, and very filling.

Gaeng keow wan gai (green chicken curry) - Curry is a very popular dish all around the world. Why not try some fresh green curry? Not into spicy food? That's okay! The coconut milk in this green curry makes it a very mild version of the curry for anyone to try. Like spice? Then by all means, ask for more chillies, please!

Pad Thai - Last but certainly not least, the world-famous Pad Thai! Think noodles -- stir-fried with bean sprouts, spring onions, and eggs. This dish can be found all over Thailand from restaurants to street vendors. You must try this dish while visiting.

Gay-Friendly Nightlife

There are several bars and clubs to explore while in Hua Hin. The best part is that some of them are located right across the street from the beach so you can have a drink, mingle, and dance by the ocean.

New Guy Bar

Friendly gay bar serving beer, with free pool table and free WiFi. New Guy Bar also offers massage services for men upstairs.

Travel Safety Tips

Hua Hun is considered a very safe place to visit. Relax, unwind, and lounge on the beach. As always, practice common sense travel tips so that your trip is fun and memorable. Lock up your valuables in the hotel safe, markdown points of interest on your map before you head out to explore, and importantly, remember how to get back to your hotel room (after a few drinks by the beach sidebars, you wanna make it back to your room safely)!
