Local Expert: Gay Scene in Napa Valley

The proximity of Napa to the Bay Area and San Francisco has made the area spectacularly gay welcoming. There are several gay-specific things to do, including Out in the Vineyard, a gay tour and event company that hosts the annual “Big Gay Train” train ride through the valley, along with numerous gay wine weekends.

Best Time to Visit Napa Valley

The best time to visit Napa Valley is between August and October and March through May. These times of the year also coincide with the harvest season, which makes it an optimal time to visit and partake in the harvest festivities.  Of course, the off-season and winter months are also lovely, and you'll find that Napa Valley hotels are less expensive, and there are fewer crowds during that time.

MUST EAT: Napa Valley Gay-Friendly Dining

Napa Valley is a foodie paradise, but it would be difficult to choose just one dining experience.  In Napa Valley, you'll find The French Laundry, revered among the country's finest restaurants, or you can go in the opposite direction and pack a gourmet picnic yourself with provisions selected to your liking from a local store.  At GayTravel.com, we would be remiss if we didn't let you know that "The Restaurant at Meadowood" is a GayTravel Award winner and was destroyed in the recent fires, but a new iteration will soon be back!

MUST VISIT: Napa Valley Gay-Friendly Bars & Nightlife

Though Napa has no official gay bars, it is very welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. Aside from having multiple gay mixers and events every few weeks or so, a new local bar, pub, or eatery is selected to be the local gay-friendly spot to meet and be fabulous!

Napa Valley Travel Safety Tips

Napa Valley is a very safe and open place for anyone to visit. Napa Valley is also very gay-friendly and welcomes anyone looking to have good food, good wine, and be with good company. As always, it's good to practice general caution while visiting any new place. Remember to use the hotel safe to lock any personal belongings of value.  Of course, remember where you are staying and plan how you will get back safely and soundly after all the wine you'll be drinking!
