Today, we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of America's greatest civil rights activists. Dr. King may be best known for his use of nonviolent civil disobedience in order to draw attention to civil rights issues, however it was also King who delivered the famous "I Have a Dream" speech which highlighted the need for racial equality in order for people to coexist peacefully. At GayTravel.com, we believe as Mark Twain said, that "travel is fatal to prejudice" and we encourage the LGBTQ community to travel often and dare to become exposed to different cultures. As we reflect on the fight for equality, we wondered: what better way to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. than to attend a memorial march? With that in mind, we've drawn up this list to help you find MLK marches happening across the US:

 

1. Baltimore
The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts celebrate the 17th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade.  The parade commemorates the life of civil rights leader and icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, January 16, 2017 12:00pm
 

 

2. Washington DC
Join Nick Cannon, and over a thousand ‘Peace Walkers’ this year on the two-mile walk along MLK Ave in Southeast. This year’s Peace Walk will begin at 10:00am on January 16th at 2500 MLK Ave SE and end at the R.I.S.E Center at 2730 MLK Ave SE.

3. Miami
MLK Parade begins at 11 a.m. and runs along Northwest 54th Street, from Northwest 10th to 32nd avenues. The parade ends with a celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 6000 NW 32nd Ct.

4. Atlanta
MLK March & Rally starts at Peachtree and Baker Streets. Assemble at 1:15pm, begin march at 1:45pm
 

 

5. New Orleans
The 31st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March begins at City Hall at 9:00am and ends at MLK Monument on MLK Blvd. & S. Claiborne Ave.
