Reminiscent of the times, for the last two summers, pride events across the globe have been canceled, downscaled, or shifted online due to the ongoing pandemic. But as the world began to feel more normal again in the early months of the year, so did the promise of Gay Pride 2022. Interestingly enough, this is not a new phenomenon, in fact, throughout history periods of upheaval have given birth to some of the most genuine progress and change. As a whole, Pride commemorates this time, where riots and protests created awareness of deep-seated problems and energized people to take action to create substantial change and give the community a chance to celebrate how far we've come.

San Francisco Pride

Action-packed and rainbow-hued, the effervescent late-June extravaganza that is San Francisco Pride is the City by the Bay’s celebration of all things LGBTQ+. After nearly three years since a traditional, face-to-face celebration, SF Pride is returning with in-person festivities all Pride Month long. The fun doesn’t stop there though, make sure to mark your calendars for the final weekend in June when more than one million people are expected to attend this affair, the largest annual LGBTQ+ gathering in the world.

After a two-year hiatus, the theme for the 52nd Annual San Francisco Pride Celebration is Love Will Keep Us Together;  a sentiment synonymous with a sense of return and shared presence that will resonate deeply with the community. From the lens of Carolyn Wysinger, the President of the SF Pride Board of Directors, this return signifies how close we are to returning to normal: “We are welcoming thousands of LGBTQ+ family members from across our diverse communities to dance, sing and love each other like never before. We have waited a long time and now it’s finally here!”

Where to Stay in San Francisco:

To ensure that your Pride weekend is what you've always wanted it to be, it's best to stay as close to the festivities as possible. The timeless Westin St. Francis San Francisco is a great place to be as it is in the heart of Union Square which happens to fall along the Pride Parade route. This historic spot is also the host hotel for the 24th Annual Pride Brunch, which will follow the theme “Love is in the Air” and include a delicious brunch with vodka & bubbly bars and an exciting auction in addition to time devoted to honoring the Grand Marshals of the SF Pride Parade. Just four blocks away from Union Square, the newly renovated San Francisco Marriott Marquis channels the vibrant cultures and rich history of its SoMa neighborhood. Located in the heart of it all, you will be steps away from renowned museums and cultural attractions, plus you’ll have the opportunity to show off your pride amongst the culturally dynamic local queer scene at one of the longest-running gay dance clubs in the country. If you are looking for a spot more off the beaten path, check out The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco in the city’s distinguished Nob Hill Neighborhood. This high-status hotspot offers a charming oasis in the heart of the city and with the historic cable car right outside its front doors, it is the perfect option for travelers looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Pride, that would still like easy access to all of the festivities as well.
