Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 2016 Olympics home country of Brazil had the most men using hookup app Grindr during this year’s Olympics, according to data released by the company. The United States and United Kingdom followed closely in second and third place for number of users.

According to Grindr, 38,000 from 109 different countries used the app in Rio during the Olympic games. During the two weeks of the games, more than 14 million messages were sent using the app.

And while Brazil, the U.S. and the U.K. topping other countries isn’t terribly surprising, some countries in the top ten might shock you. According to Grindr, a large number of users came from some of the most anti-gay places in the world, including Russia, the Middle East, and Asia.

Other data includes the most number of pics sent per guy (Czech Republic) and the most daily messages sent per guy (Curacao). Americans interacted with Brazilians the most and Poland got the most favorites.

Earlier this month, a journalist from The Daily Beast came under fire for posing as gay on Grindr to interact with athletes at the Olympics. The information he wrote in his story made it easy to identify specific athletes, some of whom were not out and some of whom were from anti-gay countries.

The Daily Beast later apologized and removed the story. Grindr CEO Joel Simkhai slammed the article and added: “These guys deserve a spotlight on their talents, not their sexual preferences.”
